Don’t Hit that Publish Button!
There’s been a lot about how to consistently write articles, but I want to focus on how publishing articles for the sake of publishing should be a cardinal sin. If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say it. If there’s no meat to the article, or there’s nothing that hasn’t been stated before, then you’re just regurgitating that information. Symptoms of publishing for the sake of publishing include:
- Feeling rushed to post your article so you can see that spike in traffic as the feeds begin picking up the information you’ve released.
- Checking your blog statistics every hour (which is a factor that makes you feel rushed)
- Writing sloppy posts (though it might be difficult to tell) and realizing your mistakes later. This is bad, because if you’ve realized your mistakes a day after you’ve published them for the entire internet to see, that means there’s a good chance that your readers might of seen the mistakes before you do. This is something you should avoid at all costs, even if it means taking a day off.
- Focusing too much on your blog, and not about what’s happening in the blogosphere. This begins to make you isolated from the rest of the world, and slowly you’ll begin to realize your articles are not what people wish to read.
- Staring at the computer for ten minutes wondering what to write next.
- Showing symptoms of IAD (Internet Attention Disorder)
- Reading posts like this, hoping that you’ll get some unseen source of inspiration from posts like this and ones related to battling bloggers block.
- If you hit the Stumble Button on StumbleUpon fifteen times before you hit the publish button. This means that you’re preoccupied and your mind’s not in your work. This leads to poor posts, and a cluttered mind, which is something you should avoid at all costs.
- If after every time you publish a post you check a site worth tool to see if your blog’s value has increased.
Avoiding these symptoms can be as easy as to stop doing them or mix up your daily blogging style. For others, it’s just writing less frequently (as it’s Quality over Quantity in the blogging game) , or even spending more time on a blog like ProBlogger. So please, don’t just publish for the sake of publishing, write quality, meaningful posts, for the sake of the blogosphere.

Okay I have not gotten the “subscribe by email” link to work, however, if you go to subscribe to feed (located at the top right corner), and look at the box at the top right hand corner, there should be an option for subscribing by email.
The fact is that pretty much everything you read online has been said elsewhere. Even the topic you write about now has been written in a different way by a different author. It is rare to find new information and chances are that the said new information comes directly from the source in the first place. Then goes the regurgitation from additional authors who want to get in on the niche.
I believe that readers like to read the same ole’ thing when it is written in a different point of view with personal opinion explaining why that topic matters to the one writing.
